Google facelift

Andy Rutledge has done a great job of analyzing the lo-tech ‘design’ of the internet’s most popular search engine. The question is this: Is Google successful despite a poor design or because of it? Or put differently: “How important to overall success is good design?” Without the killer functionality of Google, it would not be where it is today, yet how many decently useful sites don’t get a second thought due to poor interface design?
