Yuri Gagarin Interview
Yuri: There’s no conclusive evidence for God.
Dave: Picture an episode of CSI where they discover a body with a hatchet in the back. They wouldn’t conclude that the victim died of natural causes since a hatchet in the back is not natural. Apply this logic to our Cosmos Scene Investigation by examining every clue to rule out the possibility of foul play—or in this case, beneficial play. All due respect, Mr. Cosmonaut, but not seeing God during your two hour visit to space doesn’t prove anything. Conversely, it’s more reasonable to deduce that this orchestra of protons, quasars, spiders, and taxicabs did not arrange themselves by natural causes. This universe has a hatchet in its back and a culprit is on the loose.
Yuri: God is a crutch for the weak, the opium of the masses.
Dave: Let’s compare God to other crutches of today’s society like common street crack, triple-keg-bong-binging, porn, workaholism, self-mutilation, and endless online RPG’s. Everybody leans on something to get them through life. I’d bet a dependence on a supernatural being beats an addiction to hard liquor, but I haven’t drank enough to know.
Yuri: God is a license for bigotry, abuse, and war.
Dave: Well what’s so wrong with that? As evolving primates, spurred by our own made-up religion, we should be entitled to do whatever it takes to get ahead! Call it hypocrisy, but without God, you can’t call hatred, oppression, or killing wrong. The fact that the public condemns God-believers for saying and doing cruel things only confirms that there’s a transcendent goodness.
